Woman Struck, Killed In Busy Bridgeport Crosswalk

A woman died after being struck by a car in a busy Fairfield County crosswalk.

She was walking in Bridgeport westbound on Washington Avenue around 8 a.m., Monday, Jan. 5, when she was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Coleman Street.

The woman, identified as 79-year-old Marilyn Jones, was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, where she died from her injuries, said Capt. Lonnie Blackwell of the Bridgeport Police.

The striking vehicle's driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police, Blackwell said.

Jones was a resident of of Bridgeport.
